About Grahan Village:
Off-beat places are the kind of places which I always try to find. I was on my trip to Kasol when I heard about the beautiful village called Grahan Village. No, it doesn’t mean like Chandra Grahan instead it’s just the name of the village.
So, I decided to visit the village and believe me if you do like places with fewer people and less connected to the market area then this village is the perfect destination for you. In the winter season, the village is completely covered in snow and temp falls in negative at night.
Grahan Village is situated around 8km-9km away from Kasol main market. The complete village is surrounded by mountains. There are no local buses available to reach the village. Transport options are discussed in the How to reach village section.
How to Reach Grahan Village:
Once you reach Kasol you can start your trek to Grahan Village. In case, you are looking for how to reach Kasol then try to read my previous post about Kasol – Click Here.
There are two ways to reach Grahan village:
Trek from Kasol:
If you are physically fit then you can choose to start your Grahan Village from Kasol market as there is no local transport available to reach the Grahan Village. Once you start your trek from Kasol you will have to walk around 6-7km before starting to climb on the mountain.
Try to wear comfortable shoes as the trek path is not good and you will find lots of stones in your way. There is no need to wear trekking shoes just sports shoes with good grip are enough.
Trek from the Base Point:
If you don’t want to start your trek from Kasol. Then either you need to book a cab from Kasol to Basepoint of Grahan Village or take a shared vehicle. If you are in a group then you can book a Tata Sumo for Rs.1000 or any SUV car as a normal hatch pack don’t go to Grahan Village because of the rough route.
Solo backpacker or budget traveler can take a shared taxi which will cost you around Rs.200 per side.
Note: Shared taxis are not available in the Kasol market. You need to walk around 200-300metere towards the Grahan Village route and then you will find the shared SUV cars or Gypsy there.
Once you reach the Basepoint then the real trek starts. It will take around 1.5hrs to reach the village from the basepoint. Routes are very clear so there will be no chance that you will lose the route or find anything unusual on your way.
There are small shops and tea stalls available so you can eat Maggi and buy some dry snacks and enjoy the tea while trekking to Grahan Village. You will not see any sign of a village or any houses until you are about to reach the village. So, if you are doing the trek alone then don’t be in panic just enjoy the view and keep on trekking you will reach your destination.
Where to stay in Grahan Village:
Lots of Homestay options are available in Grahan Village. The cost of per night stay will start from Rs.450 without food. Every homestay has its own cafeteria so food option are available. Try not to eat nonveg food such as chicken or mutton as the cost will be very high. Vegetarian food is available at an average cost.
There is no network available in Grahan Village. In case you are using the Airtel or BSNL postpaid then might be you will find the network. Else, the mobile will be in flight mode only.
Also, only two or three homestays have a wifi connection. So if you do not want to disconnect from the internet then check for the homestays with wifi connectivity. I will recommend informing your dear one about the network issue before starting your trek.
Village people are so sweet and friendly and almost everyone speaks the Hindi language. You will also find people there who can speak English. Views from the balcony or terrace of the homestay look really soothing.
